EPISODE 13 · ACTIVITY GUIDE

Where Did the Airplane Go?

Our airplane has flown away. Can a painted trail show us which way it went?

LOOK CLOSELY

Where did it fly?

Trace the painted trail with your finger. Which way do you think the plane went?

Video coming soon. Explore the activity below.

Gather what you need

Paper, crayons, airplane stickers or paper airplane shapes, washable paint, a dropper, and a smooth plastic ruler or card.

For your grown-up: A grown-up helps with the dropper and smooth-edged tool. This painted trail is an art way to suggest movement.

MAKE WITH ME

Let’s see what happens.

  1. Draw a sky with places your imaginary flyer could visit.
  2. Arrange a plane and point the way it faces. Leave space behind it for a trail.
  3. Put a small paint drop behind the plane. Practice dragging a smooth card through a drop on spare paper.
  4. Pull a trail away from the back of your plane. Try a new trail on another sheet and compare your choices.
HELP ME · NO SUPPLIES NEEDED

Your ideas belong here too.

Point where the plane is going. Where should its trail be: in front or behind?

NOTICE & WONDER

Tell me about your making.

How do your lines help someone follow the flight?

What would you try next?

“I’ll show you how I did mine. Yours doesn’t have to look like mine.”
