EPISODE 11 · ACTIVITY GUIDE

Can Little Pieces Make a Turtle?

Two colors meet on a turtle shell. What will you discover where they overlap?

LOOK CLOSELY

What happens where colors meet?

Find two overlapping pieces. What new color or shape can you notice?

Video coming soon. Explore the activity below.

Gather what you need

A paper plate, colored tissue paper, school glue, a brush, marker, and paper head, four flippers, and tail prepared by a grown-up.

For your grown-up: A grown-up prepares the body shapes. Use glue to attach them and draw eyes instead of adding tiny parts.

MAKE WITH ME

Let’s see what happens.

  1. Place two tissue pieces apart, then partly on top of each other. What changes?
  2. Brush a little glue on a small part of the plate. Place a piece, overlap another, and press gently.
  3. Choose where the next colors go. Try a little overlap and a lot; compare what you see.
  4. Arrange the head, flippers, and tail before gluing them underneath the shell. Add an expression and imagine where your turtle is going.
HELP ME · NO SUPPLIES NEEDED

Your ideas belong here too.

Show overlap with your hands. Which two colors should meet next?

NOTICE & WONDER

Tell me about your making.

Where can you show an overlap on your shell? What surprised you there?

What would you try next?

“I’ll show you how I did mine. Yours doesn’t have to look like mine.”
