EPISODE 20 · ACTIVITY GUIDE

Color Everywhere!

Can a picture be full of ideas without being a picture of a thing?

LOOK CLOSELY

Can colors tell a story?

Look at these marks. What feeling or idea could you make with your own colors?

Video coming soon. Explore the activity below.

Gather what you need

Paper and washable paint sticks, daubers, or crayons.

For your grown-up: Use paint sticks gently with only a little exposed. The activity stands alone and does not require the original classroom read-aloud.

MAKE WITH ME

Let’s see what happens.

  1. Look around for a color or shape that catches your attention.
  2. Make a dot, line, or swirl inspired by it. Choose where it belongs on your paper.
  3. Add another mark and notice how the picture changes. You decide when to fill space or leave it open.
  4. Turn your picture around. Tell someone about a choice you made, even if it does not have a name.
HELP ME · NO SUPPLIES NEEDED

Your ideas belong here too.

Choose a color for an imaginary sound. Would its mark be tiny, wide, wiggly, or something else?

NOTICE & WONDER

Tell me about your making.

Which mark would you make again? Which space did you choose to leave?

What would you try next?

“I’ll show you how I did mine. Yours doesn’t have to look like mine.”
